How to make a curled dog tail
This tutorial shows you how to make a curled dog tail without rubber band or metal or hot glue
(I personally donīt see a point of using elastic bands or metal in tail-making).
You need:
~ ― yards of fur fabric
a piece of cotton fabric
a piece of iron-on cotton fabric
scissors
thread
a sewing machine (or a needle if you donīt own a sewing machine)
This is what my pattern looks like. It consists of three parts and each piece has to be cut twice.
The triangles are darts which create the curly shape. Arrows show the direction of the fur pile.
When you draw the pieces on fur make sure that the pile flows towards you and that the arrows also
point towards you.
Here I have drawn all the pieces on fur fabric.
All the pieces are cut. You should have six pieces now, two of each piece.
Next sew the darts.
Slit the darts open.
Sew the three tail pieces together.
Sew the tail. Leave the bottom open. Also leave ~ 10cm (4 inch) hole to the side (you will stuff the tail through this hole).
Cut 2 tail bottom pieces, one from cotton fabric and one from iron-on cotton fabric, diameters 10cm (4 inch). The iron-on
fabric will stick to the cotton fabric when ironed and making it stronger. If you use very thick fabric for the
bottom you donīt have to use the iron-on fabric. (The third piece here is the pattern of the bottom.)
Sew your strap to the bottom piece. I like to make cotton straps like this, but elastic band can also be used.
Sew the bottom piece to the tail.
Turn the tail outside out.
Stuff the tail through the opening which was left to the side. Polyfill is good.
Hand-sew the hole closed.
Your tail is finished now. :3
If you donīt want your tail to be as curled as this one here you can simply ignore some of the darts
or even all of them.
